There’s something so demoralizing about being told no. I’ve been afraid to pursue different projects and opportunities due to the off chance of being told no. I finished watching the Mindy Project this week, and after watching her show I’ve acquired this mentality that “I’m a stone cold b” which is what she refers to herself as, and “If I want something, I’m getting it.”
A change of mindset is truly all you need sometimes to making bolder steps in your career, life, education, relationships, anything really. These past few weeks. I pitched a few ideas to some agencies on something I wanted to do for a long time and the next day I got a responses saying “Yes we’d be honored to have you”. I was and still am shocked. I told my sister the good news and how I felt about it, and she asked me “why are you shocked that they said yes?”
The life lesson I learned is that whatever it is you’re pursuing in life, you need to own it. Fear, doubt, and feelings of inadequacy will be the very reason your seat at the table is occupied by someone else. That NO you’re expecting could be a YES, so just go for it. What do you have to lose?
